Helen Rowe

ROWE, HELEN - Amherst - The death of Helen G. Rowe, 87 years of age occurred suddenly on April 19, 2014 at the All Saints Hospital, Springhill following a brief time of ill health. Helen was born in Nappan, June 8, 1926 to Charles and Beatrice (Gould) Duffy and was the last surviving member of her family. In her earlier years, she worked at RBC in Amherst and in Ontario before returning to the area and with her Husband, Peter, operated Rowes Esso Service Station & Restaurant in Aulac, N.B. for over 25 years , retiring in 1979. An avid golfer and curler,Helen was a member of the Amherst and Sackville Curling Clubs, The Amherst Golf Club and was a past President of the Nova Scotia Ladies Curling Association. Despite being in hospital for several weeks, she followed with great excitement the 2014 Olympic games, men and womens curling and the Mens World Curling championships from Japan. Helen always enjoyed a game of cards, especially bridge with her friends. Helen was a member of Christ Church, Amherst. She valued her family and her many friends. For several years she gave loving attention to her sisters and her brothers during their time of declining health. Family and friends often found Helen at the door, with her basket of food that she thought would be a help in a particular time. Left with a lifetime of memories are nephews, Wayne Duffy, James Duffy, Murray White; nieces, Phyllis Simons, Connie Carruthers, Lynn Welcher, Lois Estabrooks, Elizabeth Landry as well as her close friends Kathy Pooley and Jimmy Sloan; sisters-in-law, Phil Redden, Lou Baker, Mary Bowser and Dorothy Rowe. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her Husband, Peter, sisters Eileen (White) Smith, Edith "Bunny" Sharpe; brothers Chalmer "Chum" and Delmar Duffy, special friend, Jim Sloan; nephews, Joesph Duffy, Charles Duffy, Gerald Duffy; niece Mary Louise Leger.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, N.S. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Christ Church, Amherst on Friday, April 25 at 11 a.m. Archdeacon Glenn Eason and Rev. Charlotte Ross officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial to take place in the Sackville Cemetery. Family flowers only.
