MACKIN, IAN P. - It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Ian P Mackin on April 22nd, 2014 in Edmonton, Alberta. Ian was born in Saint John, N.B. in 1925 and lived there for most of his life. He moved to Dieppe, NB. to continue his career following an adventure-filled year in Québec city where he honed his knowledge of French. In Dieppe, Ian and Monique made many new friends, discovered the joys of gardening and continued to practice their winemaking skills. He loved playing bridge and had a passion for politics, elections and the Law. He delighted in going camping well into his seventies and passed on that love to his six children and in later years to his 13 grandchildren. He travelled the world with Monique at his side. They adventured in Ireland, Australia, Fiji, China, Hong Kong, Japan and many European countries and of course, they soaked up the sun and walked the sandy beaches of Isla Mujeres, Mexico for more than a dozen winters. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Monique; his six children Marie, Ian, Danielle (Gérard Guay), Elaine (Dylan Taylor), Diane (Brent Melanson), and Tim (Cate) and grandchildren Victoria and Kathleen Smith, François and Marc-Antoine Mackin-Guay, Rebecca (Stefon Beechinor), Bevan (Lauren), Stillman and Siobhan Taylor, Jessica, Megan and Adam Melanson, and Nicole and Ryley Mackin. "L'important c'est d'aimer" (The most important thing is love). These were the words he lived by. He loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his friends.
A service and internment will be held at a later date in Saint John, N.B.
