Harry Tobin died peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Steelworkers Lane.
Born May 24, 1929, he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Leblanc) and Henry Tobin.
Harry was predeceased by his wife Veronica 'Bonnie' in 2003, his sister Eileen (Greg Donovan) 1990 and his brother Jimmy Morrison (Barbara) 2011.
He is survived by his five children, Colleen, Sydney, Karen (David Hume), Calgary, Brian, Sydney, Paul, Canmore, Alta., Kevin (Corinne) Halifax; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Bonnie-Jean (Clayton Connors), Stephen, Adam, Eric (Blaire MacNeil), Gavin, Samuel, Harrison and Ellen; one great-grandchild Hudson Connors; nieces, Paula Morrison and Michelle Corbett, both in Ontario. Harry is also survived by his family of in-laws, Greg (Jean) Donovan, Barbara (Jimmy) Morrison, Colleen (Dan) Johnson and Johnny (Mary Margaret) Gillis and many nieces and nephews; predeceased by Laurie and Jimmy McCarron, Dan Johnston, Mary Margaret Gillis and Margie and Tommy Hartigan.
Harry started his career in sales in 1947 when he joined National Canadian Drugs Ltd. Following this he spent three years in the machine shop at Sydney Steel Corp then resumed his sales career with Maple Leaf Mills Ltd. After 14 years he joined the CBC Sydney as communication & marketing manager.
Harry also worked with the Business Development Bank of Canada as Case Counselor until his retirement in 1989. He was an active community volunteer particularly with the United Way and St.Theresa’s Parish Hockey League.
Visitation will be held 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Memorial at a later date. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
Deepest gratitude to Dr. Paul Murphy and Dr. Mandat Maharaj for such wonderful care throughout our journey with Parkinson’s.
Dale, Tony and Kathy; a flower brightened his day, a truffle sweetened his heart.
