Passed peacefully away on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Chancellor Park, St. John's, our darling mother Joan (Bursey) Marshall, aged 92 ½ years. Born on November 1, 1921 at St. John's, she attended Memorial College, graduating 1941 from the Teacher's Training program. Joan was predeceased by her husband George Marshall (2005); her parents: Elijah and Phoebe Jane (Winsor) Bursey; her siblings: Jean (Bill Bishop), Madge Bursey, Ronald Bursey (Jean), Lloyd Bursey (Molly), Art Bursey (Doris), Gwen (Norman Hood), Fluff (Jack Grant, Harold White), Phyllis (Edwin "Dim" Press), Ralph Bursey and Frank Bursey (Olive, Connie); her sisters and brothers-in-law Terri Bursey, Warwick Marshall (Marion), Jean White (Randall), Florrie Butler (Edgar) and Bob Marshall (Phyllis); also by Vivian Marshall. Joan leaves to mourn her daughters: Lynda (David Strong) at Victoria, BC, Bonnie (Falah Maroun) at St. John's, Janet Marshall (Geoffrey Paynter) at North Rustico, PEI, and Jill Marshall at St. John's; grandchildren: Kim Strong (Richard Hornsey) and their children: Jessie and Gemma at Toronto; Joanna Strong (Gaurav Upadhya) and their children: David and Anjuli at Toronto; Rindala Maroun (Jason Whiteway) and their daughter Mackenzy at Torbay; Rilla Marshall (Damien Worth) at Charlottetown, PEI; Logan Paynter (Christina) and their daughter Riley at Cupertino, CA; and Molly Kettle at St. John's. Also leaving brother Calvin "Ladd" Bursey (St. John's), Gwen Marshall; sister-in-law Olive (Whyte) Adderly (Corner Brook) and former son-in-law Blair Kettle (Toronto); numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, other relatives and friends. A special thank you to the staff of Chancellor Park who took such good care of mother during her last days. Visitation to be held at Barrett's Funeral Homes, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Sunday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service to be held from Barrett's Chapel on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. No flowers by request.
