It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Ernest 'Ernie' Prenty, age 92, a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney and formerly of North Sydney, on Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in North Sydney, Ernie was the beloved son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth (MacNeil) Prenty. Ernie was baptized and a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney he was the last surviving member of his family. He loved the outdoors and animals, in particular his dogs.
He is the loving uncle of Claire R. Collins, Cohasset, Ma., Kathleen A. Pedersen, Boston, Ma., and Joseph P. Rowan, Sudbury, Ma., also his nine great-nieces and nephews and 8 great-great nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Ernie was predeceased by his siblings Patrick, Marie and Ada Prenty, Kathleen Rowan and Evelyn Beaton.
Ernie’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney & Heritage House, Port Hood, for the kind and loving care shown to Ernie, during the past number of years.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass for Ernie will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10th at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
