Laurie Franklyn Lloyd, 78, of South Head, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Melvin and Vera (Shepard) Lloyd.
He was a member of Shriners Philae Temple and Masonic Lodge. In Laurie’s early days he was an avid musician playing in several bands including the Country Playboys. He worked for many years as a heavy duty mechanic and later he built a boat and went fishing.
Laurie is survived by daughters, Helene (Keith) Bloor, Edmonton, Alta., Vera (Stephen Goldring), Halifax, and Debbie (Keith) Murrant, Glace Bay; sons, Tim (Cora MacKenzie), Dominion, Todd, Port Morien, and Dwayne (Melinda), Dominion; sisters, Gloria Steinhoff, Lila Walker, Mary Lou Stephens, all of Ontario, Yvonne (Tony) Hynes, Emma Jean (Lawrence Burns), both of Glace Bay; brothers, Louie (Valerie), Homeville, Crawford (Diane), Gardiner Mines, Melvin (Phyllis), Joey (Sherry), both of Ontario, Jesse (Darlene), Glace Bay, Hector (Dianne), Shane, both of Ontario, and Henry (Cathy), Glace Bay.
He was predeceased by his wife the former, Jean Shuttle and brother, Alex.
Visitation for the late Mr. Lloyd will be held from 6-9 p.m. today (Thursday, May 8) at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Interment to follow at a later date.
