Edward Hamilton

HAMILTON, Edward Clinton - aged 79 of Lawrencetown, Annapolis County passed away May 7, 2014 in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Middleton on September 10, 1934, he was the eldest son of the late H. Clinton and Jennie (Whitman) Hamilton. Ed started working with his father’s construction company H.C. Hamilton during the summer months and full time upon completion of High School. In 1957 he received a Diploma in Architectural Drafting from Vocational Education Division, Department of Education NS. He was Building Inspector for the Department of Public Works on the Nova Scotia Land Survey Institute, Lawrencetown until the completion of the School in 1958. He owned and ran Hamilton Construction Services for over 40 years. He retired 20 years ago at the age of 60. Over the years he served on various committees: Chairman of the Building Committee for the United Church; Building Committee for the Lawrencetown Swimming Pool, Lawrencetown Fire Department and Rink. He coached Minor Hockey and Lawrencetown Hornets for a number of years. He loved hunting and fishing. In his younger years, Ed loved playing softball, basketball and hockey. As he grew older, hiking and later travelling the back country in his 4x4 Kubota. He is survived by his daughter, Susan (LeRoy) Wood, Inglisville; sons, Micheal (Christine), Lawrencetown; Richard (Sandra), Inglisville; David, Inglisville; special niece, Ronda Russell, Chester; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; brother, Warren (Barbara), Middleton; sister-in-law, Cora Spencer, Hantsport; brother-in-law, Ralph (Carol) Mumford, Wasaga Beach, ON and Uncle George Whitman, Middleton. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, the former Lexie Mumford (2007), sister, Jeanette (1952) and brother-in-law, Ernest Spencer (2010). Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 14, 2014 in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street (902) 825-3448 with Rev. Leon Langille officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or the Kidney Foundation Atlantic Canada Branch.
