Elizabeth Blackmore

Born In: Bay L'Argent, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

Passed in: North Sydney
Passed on: May 11th, 2014

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Blackmore at the age of 92, on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the Northside General Hospital.
Lizzie was born in Bay L’Argent, NL., the daughter of the late Tom and Emma (Hardy) West. She was the youngest of 10 children and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
In 1953, with her parents in tow, Lizzie and her husband Stewart, moved from St. John’s to North Sydney to make a life, where Stewart was employed with CN Marine. Lizzie lovingly cared for her parents and other family members in their time of need. When her sister died being a young mother, Lizzie and Stewart raised her daughter Mamie. Her nieces and nephews fondly recall their summer visits with Aunt Lizzie and Uncle Stewart. Lizzie loved to tell stories of hers and Stewart’s retirement years when they fished and hunted the Highlands of Cape Breton, with their friends.
Lizzie was a very private, gentle person who truly cherished her relationships with her family and friends. Her faith was very important to her and her commitment to Stewart and the joy their marriage brought to her life was evident in any conversation with Lizzie.
Lizzie was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, her gentle giant, Stewart Blackmore and also by her niece Mamie Thomas.
Lizzie leaves behind many nieces and nephews from across Canada and the United States with whom she kept close contact with weekly phone calls and yearly visits. Lizzie also leaves behind her friends, who she would proudly say became her family, Steve, Betty-Jo, Danielle and Bryce Kehoe.
At Lizzie’s request there will be no visitation. A private graveside committal will take place at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in her memory may be made to St. John the Baptist Anglican Church.
