1925 – 2014
STELLARTON – Pearl Eleanor Sarson, 89, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 14, 2014 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Pearl grew up in Trenton, daughter of the late H.O. “Slim” Farnell and Mabel and Henry Hartling.
After working at the Pictou Shipyards, she became a seamstress at the Singer Sewing Centre, The Italian Factory and retired from Wear Well Garments in Stellarton. Many friendships were formed with those co-workers that lasted through the years. Her volunteer work included Meals on Wheels, canvassing for the Cancer Fund, the hospital book cart, soliciting for the Seniors Festival and the blood donor clinic, to name just a few.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, Stellarton Library, the Stellarite Club and their line-dancing group. Over the years, she enjoyed skating, camping, fishing, boating, exhibitions, local sports, reading, British comedies, playing cards, knitting, word puzzles, walking the trail, variety concerts, summer festivals, church, teas, making pickles, her dog, Sheba, her back deck swing and dances at the legion.
Meeting Don, later in life, gave her the opportunity to travel. She enjoyed flights to Alberta and Colorado to visit her granddaughters and tour the Rocky Mountains. She found an interest in computers so learned to e-mail and kept in touch with family and friends on Facebook.
Pearl also had a talent for music. She often sang at house parties, playing the guitar or piano. She greatly admired the talents of others and rejoiced in their accomplishments.
Living in the Asphalt area for over 65 years, she had a loving family, loyal friends, and good neighbors. She took great pride in her home and beautifying her property with flowers. Her short period of illness (since March 2014) provided her with the time to visit with family and friends and meet her newest great-grandchild.
Left to mourn her passing is her companion Don; a daughter Sheila; sisters: Beverly (Gerry), Dorothy (Wayne) and Edna (Cecil); sisters-in-law Roberta and Faye (Jack); brother-in-law Nearing Sarson; five grandchildren: Teri (Rob), John (Lee Ann), Clark, Robert and Janice (Amit); five great-grandchildren: Jarrett (Jessica), Joanne (Walter), Kirk, Trent and Anjani; many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Whitman Sarson; a daughter Marilyn Chesnutt; sisters: June, Sylvia and Rita; brothers: Earl, Ossie and Corey.
Arrangements are under the direction of the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton.
In keeping with Pearl’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. A small service of committal will be held at a later date in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton or a charity of your choice.
