On this date one year ago, Cyril Mills died after being involved in a single vehicle accident, leaving the road at the 83 mile marker on the Alaskian Highway on the long weekend, May 17, 2013 at approx. 6:15 p.m.
There was a service held in Fort St. John and cremation took place at that time.
Sept. 23, 2013, a private family service was held at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Edward and Ellen (Greendige) Mills.
Cyril started his career at Sammy Mendelsons in the busy Jewish business district.
Cyril was a veteran overseas, serving with the famous Canadian Black Watch with the Military Police.
He was one of the first hired when Brinks Armoured Truck Services came to Cape Breton.
Cyril is survived by sons, Kenneth, Cyril Jr. and daughter, Cheryl. Grandchildren, Shalene and Blair and Taylor, Rayanne and Logan; great-grandson, Jayden; Godson, Justin; brothers, Edward, Ont. and Cecil, Glace Bay; several nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his brother, Henry Mills (2002) and his nephew, Robert 'Bobby' (2006).
Cyril was staunch supporter of finding the truth of the June Hibbs case, circa 1976.
