Vilda Irene Parker – It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Vilda on May 17, 2014 at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville in her 89th year. Born in Hall's Harbour, she was the daughter of the late John William and Mabel Irene (Power) Roscoe. She was a member of the West Hall's Harbour Baptist Church and the Hall's Harbour Women's Institute. Vilda was one of the first female councillors to be elected to Kings County Municipal Council. She lovingly raised three sons that shared equally in her faith and devotion to the community of Hall's Harbour, where she partnered with her late husband, Frederick, in the many duties of their very active fishing and merchant business ventures. Vilda enjoyed wintering in Palmetto, Florida with friends. Vilda loved playing cards and games, meeting people while tending the General Store and took great delight in serving penny candy to the children. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her son, Richard Roscoe Parker, Hall's Harbour; her sister, Leah Mabel (Pineo) Langille, Lower Sackville; her brother, Owen William Roscoe, Jordan Falls; her daughters-in-law, Patricia Audrey (George) Parker-Mutch, Kentville; Dianne Carol (Lightfoot) Parker, Kentville; her grandchildren, Craig Garnet (Darlene) Parker, Gillian Rosemary (Shawn) Williams, and Geoffrey Richard Scott Parker; her great grandchildren, Madeline Crista, Max Christian, Halle Michelle Gillian, Brayden Peter, Benjamin Andrew. Vilda was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Neville; her sons, Peter Neville and Garnet Frederick; her daughter-in-law, Lorraine Lucille (Forsythe) Parker; her granddaughter, Deanna Lorraine; her sister, Isabel Maisie Borden; her half brothers, Murray Roscoe and Crowell Roscoe. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service followed by a reception was held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Michael Shreve officiated. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Memorial donations may be made to West Hall's Harbour Baptist Church, ALS Society of Nova Scotia, or a charity of choice.
