It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and brother, Robert Oliver, on Monday, May 19, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital following a brief battle with cancer.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Irving and Elizabeth (Langley) Oliver.
Bob had been employed with Marine Atlantic in North Sydney for many years. He worked aboard the ferries and on shore, retiring in 1995 as an Assistant Terminal Manager (ATM).
He was a 3rd degree member of the Fr. William Kiely Council KOC as well as a member of the Marine Atlantic Pensioners Society.
He is survived by his loving wife Sharon (Quirk) Oliver; his two daughters, Sharlene (Sheldon) Fennell, Summerside PEI, Kelly (Conrad) Lawrence, North Sydney; his five grandchildren, Mitchell, Nathan, Julianna, Gage, Fallon; his sister, Margaret 'Peg' Huculak, Toronto and his brother, David (Colleen) Oliver, Groves Point; also inlaws the Quirk family and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by a grandson, Gabriel and brothers, Irving and Berkley.
In keeping with Bob’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O’Neill, officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.
