It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of James Raymond "Ray" Haywood, age 81, of Summerside, formerly of Springhill. Ray passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, PEI. Born in Cape Kildare, PEI, he was a son of the late Bernard and Frances (Simmons) Haywood. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Springhill. He was a great carpenter and spent most of his working life in carpentry. He enjoyed dancing, bowling, playing cribbage and pool, hunting and fishing. A great musician, he was a beautiful violinist. Both he and Leona loved to help with the St. Vincent De Paul at Christmas time. He is survived by his wife the former Leona Mae Spence, Summerside; sons, James (Sandra) of Kingston, NS and Tony (Bonnie), Dartmouth, NS; daughter, Christina Haywood, Dartmouth; step-daughters, Evelyn (Donald) Rawlinson, New Market, ON and Dianne MacLeod, New Market, ON; brothers, Clarence (Theresa), Alberton, PE; sisters, Helena (Jack) Carruthers and Eunice Steele both of Summerside; PE; five grandchildren, two step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a brother, Eric. Arrangements have been entrusted to A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where visiting hours and parish prayers will take place on Friday evening from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 11 am from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Springhill, NS, followed by burial in North Street Roman Catholic Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in Ray's memory may do so to the Parkinson's Society, or the charity of your choice.
