MATHEWSON, Avis "Rose" - 70, of South Ohio, Yarmouth Co., passed away with her family by her side on May 25, 2014 in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born January 12, 1944 she was a daughter to the late George and Lydia (Hanf) Bethune. Rose was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She fostered children for many years and provided selfless care to many of the people around her. Rose also worked at Mrs. Olsen’s Nursing Home providing care to those in need. She was a member of the Yarmouth North Baptist Church and had strong, unwavering faith in the lord. Rose was a lover of many things including, bird watching, tea at Tim Horton’s with her grandchildren, hosting gatherings and many Sunday suppers with family. She was always happiest with her family by her side. She made everyday special to her family and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her children; Rhonda (Larry) Blinn, Darlings Lake; Kelly Smith, Maple Ridge, B.C.; Kevin, South Ohio; brothers, Jack (Trudy) Bethune, ON; Jean Bethune (Doris) Digby; sister, Joyce (Doug) Thibodeau, Brooklyn; grandchildren, Shane and Eryn Smith, and Ryan and Joshua Blinn. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her loving husband Roy; sisters, Eileen Muise, Jeanette Prout, Sandra Duncanson, Joan Brown; brother, Watson; and brother in infancy Ernest. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 7-9 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service was held Friday, May 30, 2014 at 2 p.m. from Yarmouth North Baptist Church, Rev. A.D “Bill” Newell officiated. A reception followed at the family home in South Ohio. Family flowers only please. Interment will be held at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke, or a charity of your choice.
