Orin Willis Levy - 89, of Wolfville, born November 17, 1924 in Black River, passed away May 25, 2014 after a one month’s stay in the hospital courageously battling cancer. He was the son of the late Stanley George and Elsie Marie (Eisenhauer) Levy. Orin, as a young boy, worked on the family farm with his brothers milking, feeding livestock and cleaning stables, morning and evening. When he got his driver’s license, he hauled logs to his father’s mill and pulpwood to Minas Basin Pulp and Power. Orin married Greta Kathryn (Jordan) on September 10, 1947, daughter of Herbert Alan and Ella Florence (Card) Jordan, Newtonville. He was predeceased by sister, Merle (Schofield), White Rock; brothers, Arnel, Black River; Ivan, Melanson and Lloyd, Sunken Lake Rd. Orin was an active member of the Gaspereau Mountain Apostolic Church (Mountain Christian Centre) and served as an elder for many years and secretary-treasurer for 35 years. Orin worked for S.G. Levy & Sons Ltd. for a number of years, with Howard K. Whidden in the oil delivery business for 10 years and then became an Esso Agent for Imperial Oil Ltd. in 1961. In 1963, he accepted the challenge of Home Heat Service and that business continues today through Orin Levy Fuels Ltd. Peter and Nicholas both now manage the company and continue service to the communities in Kings and Hants counties. Orin is survived by his wife, Greta Kathryn; one daughter, Anna Marlene; one son, Peter Anthony (Nancy); one sister, Ida Mae Smith, White Rock Mt.; one brother, Charleton (Marie): twelve grandchildren, Richard (Savannah), Jennifer (Ed), Colleen, Tommy, Thane Joseph, Jordan, Trevor, Troy, Keifer, Nicholas (Stephanie), Sarai, Nakita (Peter), five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Chelsie, Kaitlyn, Paxton, Xavier and many nieces and nephews. Orin was an avid gardener and loved to share what he was blessed with, especially his annual production of Sauerkraut, some years he made as much as 200-300 pounds, which he shared with his relatives and friends. Orin will be sadly missed by all who knew him; he loved people, and knew many through church, community and business. Visitation was held from 6-9 Thursday, May 29, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral took place at the Gaspereau Baptist Church at 2:00 on Friday, May 30, 2014.
