It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Rita LeBlanc. Rita passed away at the Glace Bay Hospital on May 27, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late Tom O’Leary and Anne (Dwyer/ O’Leary) Spencer.
Rita resided on Lake Road and was a former parishioner of St. Anthony parish; praying her rosary and novenas daily. Since 2012 Rita has resided at Victoria Haven and she had been a long time employee of Milne’s IGA.
One of her greatest pleasures was looking after her family’s needs. She will always be remembered for her cinnamon rolls, sweet rolls and apple pie. Rita also looked forward to flower planting time and a good game of cards.
Left with many fond memories and broken hearts is her husband of 69 years, Willie John, daughters, Judy at home, Brenda Treige (Joe) Texas, their children Jeff (Emi), Jennifer (Darren), sons, Harvey (Gwen), his children Kim (Chris), Brad (Becca), his stepchildren, Stephen (Kerri), Stacey (Jason), Lisa (Jimmy), Cora Lee (Mike), Denise (Darren), Donnie (Sheila), their children Brian (Alicia), Greg (Sam) and Amy, Gary (Margaret), his children Angela (Jason), Allyson (Tony), Stephen (Ashley) and Margaret’s son Ryan, great- grandchildren, Will and Ashlyn Reiniger and Jaxson LeBlanc along with 11 step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece Jerry Canning and her family.
Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her stepfather, Walter Spencer, brothers, Tommy (Mella),Johnny and Gerard, sisters, Bessie Marsh (Son), Alice Burbidge (Jim), daughters- in-law, Marie (Rogers) and Anna Lee (Viva), stepsisters, Theresa Hest, Mary MacPherson, Veronica Kelloway, Beatrice MacPherson and stepbrother Sandy Spencer. Rita was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Family flowers only, donations in Rita’s memory can be made to the Palliative Care or charity of choice.
Visitation will take place on Friday, May 30, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will take place Saturday May 31, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Seaview Street, Glace Bay, with the Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating. Reception to follow in the parish hall and burial in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
