The family of Paul MacLean announces his passing on May 27, 2014, at home in Baddeck, Cape Breton at the age of 95. Paul was born in Baddeck and was the son of late John P. MacLean and the late Mary (MacNeil) MacLean.
Paulie, as he was known to everyone, lived in Baddeck his whole life. He was a painter by trade. Paul was a member of St. Michael’s Parish and was instrumental in maintaining the Church and Parish Hall.
Paul loved his Church, Cape Breton Fiddle music, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays. He was also known to play as many games of cribbage as he could and could tell a really good joke.
Above all this, Paul was a man of strong Catholic faith, a family man who always put his family first and always had time for friends or strangers and was happy to welcome anyone into his home.
Paul was predeceased by his brother Joseph, his sister Tena and his wife Marguerite Handrahan.
He is survived by his son Blaise (Marisol Moreno) of Bogota, Colombia, Claire Ross (William) of Baddeck, N.S., Shirley MacLean (Peter Cashin) of Fredericton, N.B., and Joan Lewis (Paul) of Wolfville, N.S. and his grandchildren Justin Ross, Meaghan Ross (Mark Spears), Liam Cashin, Jana Lewis and Paula MacLean Moreno and great-grandson Connell Spears.
The family wishes to sincerely thank those who provided the wonderful nursing and home support over the years which enabled Paulie to remain in his home.
Visitation will be held on Friday May 30, 2014, at MacAskill's Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m., with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael’s Church, Baddeck, N.S., on Saturday, May 31 at 2 p.m.
For those who wish, donations may be made to the St. Michael's Cemetery Fund.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck.
