Doreen Eleanor Kearney

It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Doreen Eleanor Kearney age 66 of Amherst announce her passing on Monday, May 26, 2014 at Moncton Hospital, Moncton, NB.
Born in Toronto, ON on September 30, 1947 she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Eleanor Kearney.
In September 1980 she went north to Yellowknife. The folks that offered assistance, whether it be a car ride to an appt. Or genuine caring – it was so appreciated. Pat – I so enjoyed our conversations (they were enlightening and comforting and our hike that day in August – I loved it. Millie for your understanding, caring and advice, our boat trip down the Richbucto River – it was heavenly. Sylvia and Audrey for all our fun times on our drives, the jamboree, and our vegetable excursions – we sure laughed a lot (except for the spider.)
Tom and Oona for digging me out of the snow fortress (how many times? Lynn, your company and our chats – strange how we encountered each other again in another part of the country so many years later. Beryl – Always thoughtful ie. your surprise bags with all the goodies. Manson – confidante, friend and a great Dad to Sarah and Mark.
Doreen was employed with Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development for 33+ years (17 in Yellowknife and the remainder in Amherst) plus 7 ½ in other sectors. Her family and friends, the outdoors, travelling, music and dancing were what she enjoyed.
Special thanks to Dr. Zaremba and the staff and nurses of Cumberland health Authority for their wonderful care and Dr. Sheldon Rubin of the Moncton Hospital and his nurses.
Doreen leaves behind beloved sons Scott (Debbie) and Jamie (Karen) both of Edmonton and grandsons Michael and Matthew Howlett of Edmonton (her darlings), brother Frank (Olivia) of Ontario, niece Lila and nephew Steven of Ontario, cousins Margaret (Sonny) of Ontario, Ron Edwards (Karen) of Caroline, AB and her beloved cat Little Grey.
Special friends who were like family and were with me during this time – words cannot describe how much you mean to me: Charlene Coe (Yellowknife NT), Marilyn Black, Amherst, NS and Angie Pitre of Amherst. All were angles in disguise.
At Doreen’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in the Amherst Cemetery.
If you so wish donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to the MDS Foundation.
Online condolences and sharing of memories may be made to the family via www.campbellsamherst.ca
