PICTOU – Sheldon Elson Chisholm, 80, of the Shiretown Nursing Home, and formerly of Patterson Street, Pictou, passed away May 28, 2014 in the home.
Born in Economy, he was a son of the late James Chisholm and Muriel (Marsh) MacLellan.
Sheldon was well known for his many years of service repairing appliances throughout the county, and was also employed with Brian Clarke Construction before retiring. He was a longtime member and elder of Pictou United Church, and a dedicated 50 year member of the Pictou Fire Department. A strong lodge man, Sheldon was a 60 year member and Past Master of the New Caledonia Masonic Lodge #11, Pictou. He was also a member of the St John’s Chapter #8, the Orient Council #5, the Royal William Conclave #32, the Malta Preceptory #27, and the Order of the Eastern Star. For the last five years Sheldon was a resident of the Shiretown Nursing Home, and his family would like to thank them for the excellent care he received there.
Sheldon is survived by sisters, Rena Arbuckle, Egerton; Geneva Chisholm, Pictou; brothers: Emerson (Donna), Woodstock, Ontario; Logan, Egerton; George (Sylvia), Springton, PEI; Arthur (Marion), Enfield; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday from Pictou United Church, with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. A reception will follow. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
