John Angus “Sam” Gillis

It is with great sadness that the family of John Angus “Sam” Gillis age 77 of Amherst, formerly of Springhill and Toronto announce his passing on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Angus and Nora (Phalen) Gillis.
After getting married, Sam and Betty moved to Toronto where he worked for Canron Iron and later went back to school to take the heating trade, after completing his course Sam worked for Kingsway Heating for 10 years. In 1976 he bought the company and operated it until his retirement in 2002 at which time he moved back to Nova Scotia and enjoyed his summers at the cottage in Port Howe.
Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 55 years, Betty (Laurie) Gillis, daughters Kathy (Brett) Cresswell of Mimico, ON and Donna Ruffolo (Jim Haldane) of Mississauga, ON, sons Terry of Etobicoke, ON, Troy of Brampton, ON and Gary (Elizabeth) of Georgetown, ON, eight grandchildren Brad and Bryce Cresswell, Brandon and Danielle Ruffolo, Marla and Kayla Gillis and Christian and Julia Gillis all of Toronto, two great grandchildren Tyson Cresswell and Alesia Ruffolo, one sister Vivian (Amos) Gogan of Springhill and two nephews Chris and Nick.
Burial will take place at a later date in Ontario.
