It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Deanna (Harvey) Vogelsanger.
Born in Sydney , May 28, 1941, Deanna was the youngest daughter of the late Archibald and Elizabeth Harvey.
Deanna is survived by her son Harvey; daughter-in-law Barbara; and her grandchildren, Dylan, Calgary and Jayde, Port Hastings.Also left to mourn Deanna is Jim Connors Sr., her best friend and traveling companion. Jim’s unwavering support and constant presence and care have been of great comfort to Deanna and her family. Deanna is also survived by her sisters, Audrey (Peter), Ontario, Shirley Miller, Florida, Margie Lund, Westmount, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Deanna was blessed to have an abundance of friends to enjoy her life with and support her in her illness. Korena (Brad) MacDonald, whom Deanna referred to as her “almost daughter-in-law” and her Angel, Donna D. (Johnny) Deleski, Deanna’s co-worker and friend with whom many good times were shared.
Besides her parents, Deanna was predeceased by her son Robbie MacKinnon, husband Ed Vogelsanger, sister Ivy 'Sis' Lewis; brother Benny Aulenbach.
Deanna had a great talent for crafting of all kinds, loved bingo, gardening, traveling, and always looked forward to a good game of tarabish with Ellie and Brian Whalen.
After her retirement from Connors Office Supplies, Deanna volunteered with the VON and wintered in Texas, where many new friends were made.
Deanna was a brave, strong woman who was admired for her independence, loyalty, and sense of adventure.
Special thanks to Dr. Smith, Dr. MacCormack, those who cared for her at home, and the wonderful staff at the Regional Hospital who gave Deanna the very best of care.
Cremation has taken place, a visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A memorial service will be held the following day, Thursday, June 5, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Private family burial to take place at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
