William Ignatius McIntyre

Born: May 11th, 1929

Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: June 3rd, 2014

It is with great sadness that, we the family, announce the passing of William Ignatius McIntyre - father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother and friend.
Billie passed away at Glace Bay Hospital on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, with his loving family at his side.
He was the son of the late Iggie and Mary (Francis) McIntyre.
He was predeceased by his beautiful wife, Genny (McNeil) and by four of his younger siblings, Bernice Colombus, John (Red) McIntyre, Joe McIntyre and Ignace MacIsaac. He was also predeceased by his great-grandson Abel William Boutilier. He was a devout Catholic and he made sure everyone knew it.
Billie spent his working years as owner/operator of Iggie's Tavern and the Albion Club in Glace Bay, following in his father's footsteps. In his early years, he enjoyed all types of sports both as a spectator and a participant — including hockey, baseball, bowling and golf.
Billie raised his family on Ocean Avenue, Dominion, then later he moved to Mira where he and his entire family enjoyed many happy summers of swimming, boating and bonfires. Some of our most happy memories with Grampy were in Mira. Later in life, Grampy moved to Sydney and finally returned to Glace Bay for his final years.
Throughout his life, he had many lasting friendships and made a remarkable impression to all who knew him. We would be remiss to not acknowledge that he was a "card shark" — he was well known for his crib and tarabish skills and even when he wasn't playing, he was "observing" and providing tips for the rest.
Billie is survived by a large family — his children Terry (Nancy) and their children Peter (Dolly) and their daughters Katelynn and JamieLynn, Joey (Lana), and Mark; Adele (Robert) Watt and their children Robert Douglas and his daughters Charlie and Tanner, and Genny and her children Madison, Zachary and Lily; Joanne (Alf Timmons) McIntyre and her children Allison Boutilier (Bryan Pratt) and Fabian (Natasha) Boutilier; Mary Colleen (Kelley) de Souza and their son, Andrew; FX McIntyre and his son Daniel; Robert (Koren) McIntyre and their children Jakob and Emma.
Also surviving are his siblings Eileen Roy McIntyre, Hamilton, Gerald (Ruth), Napean, Michael 'Red Mick', Stewart (Ann Marie), Brian and Lima McVeigh, all of Glace Bay.
Too numerous to mention are the cousins, nieces, nephews and extremely close friends and in-laws who loved and enjoyed his company and will miss him dearly.
A special thanks goes out to Dr Jamie MacLean (aka 'Jim') for the extra special care he provided to Grampy.
Visitation will be at Curry's Funeral Home, Glace Bay on Thursday, June 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Billie's funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, the Rev. Daniel Boudreau officiating.
Billie exhibited kindness with small and great deeds throughout his life, in his memory, we ask that you take a moment to exhibit the same kindness (Pay It Forward).
