Joseph Martin Fikowski passed away peacefully with family by his side on June 2, 2014 at the age of 91years. Joe was born on January 8, 1923. After serving in the Army for 2 years, Joe married Gertrude Ludwar in 1944 and they farmed in the Bayard and Briercrest districts for 20 years. They ran the Victoria Hotel in Olds, AB for eight years until retiring to Duncan, BC. After 4 years there Joe and Gerty returned to Moose Jaw where they owned and operated the Downtown Motor Lodge, the Matador Motel, and the Jet Car Wash. Joe worked hard, and enjoyed spending time with family and his many friends. He and Gerty loved to go dancing, especially at Danceland at Manitou Springs. Predeceased by two brothers Wenzel and Mike; sister Frances and granddaughter Michelle. Joe is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gertrude; and family: Terry (Diane), Elaine (Wayne) Winter, Brenda (Les) Bagg, Marilyn (David) Firth, and Joe (Joanne); nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A special thank you to all caregivers at Providence Place, and the nurses at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. An Evening Prayer Service will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Friday, June 6, at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St.Joseph’s Church on Saturday June 7, 2014 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Providence Place Foundation. In living memory of Joe, a memorial planting will be made by W.J.
