It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Rudy Porga on Sunday, June 8, 2014. at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Joseph and Charlotte (Bachanski) Porga.
He was employed as the driver salesman with Scotsburn Dairy until his retirement.
Rudy was a kind and gentle man, who would lend a hand to anyone in need, he was the neighbourhood handyman. He enjoyed fishing in St. Esprit, playing the accordion, and telling jokes.
He enjoyed spending time at the hockey rink, baseball and soccer fields watching his grandchildren, he coached hockey with his good friend John T. MacDonald. Rudy loved hanging out with his brothers-in-law and best friends, Billy MacIntosh and Julius Mesics, as well as many good friends and neighbours.
His most treasured thing in life was his family and spending time with them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Rudy is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Bernadette (MacIntosh), his children, Danny (Kim), London, Ont., Shaune (Nancy), Whitney Pier, Collette (Rob), Glace Bay; his precious grandchildren, whom he adored, Riley, Shane and Emmalee. He is also survived by his sisters, Margie Katryk, Sydney, Ann (Julius) Mesics, Sydney River, Ella (Mike) Kolchetski, Sydney, brother Frank Porga, Ontario; several nieces and nephews; aunts, Eva and Olga both of Montreal.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Billy in infancy and brother-in-law, Stanley Katryk.
The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff for the compassion and care given to Rudy during his stay there.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating.Interment to follow in New Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, 4E.
