HILLS
Husband, father, grandfather and friend, Kenneth Paul Hills of Moose Jaw, SK passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11th, 2014 at the age of 66 years, after bravely coping with Parkinson's. Ken was born in Moose Jaw on October 28th, 1947 to Mary and Gordon Hills and grandparents Gert and Jack McCann. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Edna; children: Lorne Cornish (Sherry), Gina Stevens (Clint), along with Kristy Hills Craig (Garth), Paul Hills (Christa) and their mother Judith Barber. The 12 grandchildren were a blessing in Grandpa Ken/Big Papa's life. Ken was raised as the eldest child of seven children: Karen (Don), Kathy, Karla, Kris, Keith (Georgina) and Konnie (Ivan). They also survive their big brother as do many nieces and nephews. With a life-long Christian faith guiding him, Ken led a quiet and selfless journey with a willingness to volunteer time and energy to his church, friends, charities, and groups such as the Lions Club. He had a dry sense of humour and an ability to light up a room with his full-body laugh. A game of bridge, a board game, or sharing a meal meant time with friends or family and a chance to tempt his sweet tooth. He was an avid spectator and player of many sports (baseball, curling, bowling, basketball, walking) before refereeing minor football, basketball, and volleyball. As a quick learner, he studied Civil Engineering Technology at STI and held positions assisting others while using his many talents - RCMP, SaskTel, and especially carpentry work where he shared his special skills. The 20+ years of work as Commissionaire (Sergeant) kept him engaged until his body began to fail. Special thanks go to the doctors and many caregivers at Providence Place and the Union Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion they offered. A Celebration of Ken's Life will be held on Monday, June 16th, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Pastors Walter Engel and Larry Hasmatali from the Church of God will officiate and interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to in Ken’s name to Rajput Parkinson Related Disease Research Endowment, Royal University Hospital Foundation, 103 Hospital Drive, Saskatoon, SK S7N 0W8. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
