Leonard was the only son of Roy and Winnifred Currie, and predeceased by a sister, Florence.
Born and raised in Dartmouth, N.S., Leonard started his automobile career working under his father, then owning Currie’s Irving Station along Banook Lake. He then moved on to a sales position at Forbes Chev Olds before moving the family to Prince Edward Island in 1990 taking a management position at Walter Piccott Chev Olds until he retired.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Glenda (Turner), formerly of Glace Bay, N.S; three sons, Jason (Sara) Currie, Dartmouth; Lenny (Bernadette) Currie, Stratford; Chris (Jennifer) Currie, British Columbia; sister, Diane (Walter) Piccott, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Brenda (Terry) Ball, Michigan; and Layle (Terry) Kneeshaw, Lake Echo; two grandchildren, Gabriel and Cassandra (Jason and Sara) Currie; nephew, Stephen (Dawn) Piccott, Ontario; niece, Rhonda (Steven) Ferguson, Ontario; niece, Amanda (Clark) Boring, Michigan.
Leonard was active for many years in the racing circuit and was inducted to the Maritime Stock Car Hall of Fame. He loved golfing with his friends at Belvedere Golf Club, bluffing at the poker tables at Red Shores, and watching his beloved Montreal Canadiens as much as he could. Always involved with his boys’ activities, he entertained fans and players of the Sherwood Parkdale Kings Jr. Hockey Club and was nicknamed the “Music Man”. A devoted husband and caring father, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. We love you “Pops”, “Boy”, Dad.
