Lorraine Virginia MINGO (MacLeod)

Lorraine Virginia Mingo (MacLeod) – Upper Onslow.

February 16, 1933 – June 14, 2014

How do you capture the love of a mother with mere words? It is with enormous sadness but a sense of overwhelming love that we celebrate the life of our remarkable mother, Lorraine. Mom lovingly touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a devoted and loving mother who will be forever loved and missed by her children and grandchildren. Mom always made time for family and friends; any time spent with them was special to her. Love of family and a faith in God sustained her throughout the years and kept her a pillar of strength for her family.

She was born in Middleton, Colchester County on February 16, 1933. She was the daughter of Dewitt and Elizabeth MacLeod. She married her sweetheart, Sylvan Mingo, in 1953 and after numerous work moves, settled in Onslow and went on to raise four children. As a family we toured Canada coast to coast and the USA which gave us all the wanderlust to travel. She was a devoted member of the Onslow United Church Margaret Jean Lacey group.

She is survived by her daughters, Wanda (Russell) MacDonald, Kathy (Jim) Tattrie and sons, Rick (Karen), Scott (Kathy), all of Truro. Also her grandchildren: Shannon (Shawn) Wolfe, Sarah (JP) Wood, both of Truro, Stephen (Norma) MacDonald, Lawrencetown, Bryan Tattrie (Amy) and Graham Tattrie (Ashley), both of Halifax. She is also survived by her treasures: Jennessa & Ethan Wolfe and Elise & Lochlan MacDonald. Also survived by sister Eileen Matheson, Hilden, brother Harlan (Mary) MacLeod, Antigonish, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Sylvan, of 54 years, brother Aulden MacLeod, brother-in-law George Matheson and sister-in-law, Shirley MacLeod.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with visitation occurring on Tuesday, June 17 from 6-9 pm and funeral service on Wednesday, June 18 at 2 pm with Rev. Glenn MacLean officiating. Reception to follow. Burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery, Denmark. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to VON, Hospice or charity of your choice. Live web-casting of the service will begin at 1:58 p.m. (Atlantic Time) and is available along with on-line condolences at www.ColchesterCommunity.com
