It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Francis Young, 67, on Monday, June 16, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Francis was born Dec. 3, 1946, the son of the late Elmer and Helen Young.
Throughout his life Francis had many jobs. He enjoyed working for Angel Manufacturing and later for Blue and White Taxi for many years. Francis was an avid outdoorsmen, who enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He also liked to tell humorous stories, to make people smile, about growing up on the Gannon Road and the “good ole days”, these stories will be cherished forever. Francis was a member of St. Joseph Church and a third degree member of Father William Kiely Council, Knights of Columbus.
Francis is survived by his daughter Tara Young (Michael Keeping), North Sydney, his son Edward (Collette) Young, British Columbia and their mother Bonnie Clark, his pride and joy, grandchildren Mikayla Young, Roman Young and his mother Angela MacNeil, as well as a special young man he thought of as a grandson Logan Keeping. Francis was so proud of his children and grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters Judy Henry, New Waterford, Ruth Young, North Sydney, his nieces Tanya Henry and Tracey (Darryl McMullin) and their children, special friends that were near and dear to his heart, Sheldon Postlethwaite, Mabel Stewart and Dale Rose.
Francis was predeceased by his parents and two brothers Gerard and Edward.
Visitation for Francis will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
