Selma Corrina "Sally" Lockhart - 88, of Kentville, passed peacefully, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. A first generation Canadian, she was born in Dodsland, Saskatchewan on September 19, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Hjalmar and Hedwig "Hattie" (Stanzel) Mathison. Sally attended school in Plenty, Saskatchewan and was a veteran of the Second World War. She enlisted with the RCAF in September 1942 and trained as a wireless operator in Ottawa, Ontario. She was stationed in Montreal, Quebec and Prince Rupert, British Columbia, receiving her discharge in January 1945. Sally was later employed for 20 years in various positions at the former Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville, retiring as an EKG Technician in 1988. Together with her husband, she was a member of the Haley Dancers square dancing group. She is survived by her husband, Chesley "Ches"; three daughters, Bonnie (Edward) Reeves, Coldbrook; Cheryl Verner, New Waterford; Corrine (James) Russell, Coldbrook; three sons, Ryan (Joanne), Bedford; Blaine (Tami), Kentville; Kevin, Langley, British Columbia; a sister, Lydia Wilson, Saskatchewan; 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two grandsons, Joshua and Douglas; a sister, Pearl Cooper; two brothers, Allen and Elmer "Bud" Mathison; a nephew, Tim Mathison; a granddaughter-in-law, Melissa Reeves. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by family request. A combined Royal Canadian Legion and funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A reception followed. Interment took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Family flowers only by request. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the CNIB or the Children's Wish Foundation.
