ATKINSON, Judith – 71, of Roberts Island, Yarmouth Co., N.S., passed away at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on June 17, 2014. Born in Toronto, ON, on Oct 6, 1942 she was a daughter to the late Arthur and Bessie (Johnson) Norton. Judith had many jobs throughout her working career, she worked as a bank teller, real estate agent, bookkeeper, was an elected member of the Clare/Argyle School Board, and more recently co-owner/operator of the Quince Tree Cottage. She also was a avid volunteer. She was a member of the Glenwood/Argyle Women’s Institute, 4-H Club Leader, Member of the Planters Society of the Argyles, and the Argyle Historic Church and Burial grounds. In 1996 she received the representative volunteer of the year from the Municipality of Argyle. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening. She loved animals, especially her horses and dogs. She was a member to the Bits and Boots Saddle Club for many years and competitive horse woman and proud horse show mom. She then moved on to dog shows and competitions with her Australian Sheppard’s “Jack” and Piper”. Judith is survived by her loving husband, Clinton Atkinson, Roberts Island; daughters, Sandra (Ronald) Crowell; Lorelei Atkinson (Gus Green); Melissa Saulnier (Ronald Nickerson); son, Michael (Frances) Atkinson; brother, Richard Norton; sister, Mathilda “Tilly” Leonienco; grandchildren, Sandi Crowell, Clinton Crowell, Madison Doucette, Wyatt Doucette, Andrew Saulnier, Julia Saulnier, Justine Atkinson, Kurtis Atkinson; and 2 great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was predeceased by brother, Arthur Norton. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service was held Friday, June 20, at 2 p.m. from the Argyle Historic Church, Rev. A.D “Bill” Newell officiated. Interment followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
