FOSS: Elwood Truman of Swift Current, SK passed away at the age of 78 years on June 4, 2014 in Regina, SK. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. from First United Church with Reverend Sharon Ferguson-Hood officiating. The organist was Patti McCleary, a tribute was shared by Thomas Springer, and a scripture was read by Jesse Springer. The Urn Bearer was Biss Wiskar, the Fez Bearer was Herb Butz, and ushers were Ray Eidem, Corny Unger, Bill Blydo, and Kay Blydo. The Honor Guard were the members of the Masonic Lodge No. 26 A.F. & A.M. and the Swift Current Shrine Club. Elwood graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1960 and practiced in Weyburn and Swift Current for many years. He retired in 1996. He maintained an active role in the family farm near Fillmore, SK until his passing. Elwood loved the outdoors and nature, and enjoyed observing the wildlife during frequent drives to the farm. He and two friends built a cabin at Burke Lake in Northern Saskatchewan in the 1980's, and he enjoyed taking his sons, grandsons, other family members and friends on fishing trips during the summer. Elwood spent many hours out at his cousin Mac Garrett's farm, visiting, attending family reunions and goose hunting every fall. He often took his sons and grandsons with him and it was always a great time. Elwood was very proud of his sons and grandchildren. He was an exceptional gentleman, husband, father, and grandfather, who never said a harsh word about anyone, and had an extraordinary amount of patience with people. Elwood was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Onetta Beatrice Foss; and his sister Eileen (Foss) Dammann. Elwood will be fondly remembered by his wife Jeane; their sons Kevin (Maria) Springer, and Robert (Jana) Springer; brother Murray Foss; sister Beverly (Earl) Brown; grandchildren, Jesse Springer, Braden Springer (Roxanne), Zachary Springer, Thomas Springer (Shelby), and Katherine Springer (Wayne); great granddaughter Eve; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be missed by many, but not forgotten. Memorial donations in Elwood's memory may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, First United Church Fund, or to a Charity of your choice.
