John MacISAAC

PICTOU – John Angus MacIsaac, Wellington Street, Pictou, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Inverness, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Allan and Christina (MacDougall) MacIsaac.
John was the youngest of 11 children and the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Bernadette MacIsaac, who was the love of his life and always by his side. They were the proud parents of 11 children, sons: Gerard (Ann), Inverness; Donald (Laverne), Dartmouth; Paul (Michele), Pictou; John, Pictou; Allan, Granton; Peter (Kelly), Alberta; Colin, Pictou; daughters: Christina (Robert) Baillie, Trenton; Rose, Pictou; and June (Bernie) Snyder, Georgia. He was also survived by his 21 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his son, Brian Alexander MacIsaac; great-granddaughter, Madison Reade; brothers: Hughie, Alex, John; and sisters: Florence, Janie, Mary Catherine, Margaret, Mary Sarah, Kay and Mary Margaret.
John served his county as a member of the Royal Canadian Regiment, with service in the Korean War and Peacekeeping theaters in the Middle East. After he was honorably discharged in 1959, John worked on board the CSS Acadia and from there on had a very successful career in construction. Nobody was a stranger to John. His big smile, kind heart, generosity and infectious sense of humor is how he will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. But most important of all was the love John had for his children.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Palliative Care Society for going above and beyond and were instrumental in making our final moments with John, “Husband, Dad, Poppy”, memorable.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 22nd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, June 23rd from Stella Maris Church, Pictou, with Father Everett McDow officiating. There will be a reception immediately after the service in the church hall. Burial will be in Stella Maris Cemetery on Tuesday, June 24th.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the IWK Children’s Hospital.
