Annie (Caines) McCabe, passed away peacefully at the Seaview Manor in Glace Bay on June 23, 2014 at the age of 103.
Born in Great Jarvis, Nfld., Dec. 8, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Snook and Maria (Kearley) Caines.
Annie was a very kind and gentle lady who devoted her life to being an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid reader and self-educated in this respect, always up to date and aware of world events, she enjoyed numerous occasions debating with her only son Fred.
She spent many hours sewing, knitting and crocheting beautiful items for her family. Annie was a member of Saint Mary’s Anglican Church and former member of Saint Mary’s Guild and for many years she delivered for “Meals on Wheels” from the kitchen of the Town House.
The family would like to thank management and staff of Seaview Manor, Annie’s home away from home for the past 10 years, where she has received outstanding care and comfort in her final years, for which we will be eternally grateful.
Annie is survived by daughters, Lola Nelson, Vancouver, B.C., Eileen (Kelvin) Coffin, Glace Bay; daughter-in-law, Joan McCabe, Ont.; 10 grandchildren, Craig (Gina), Jamie (Monica) and Diane McCabe; Wade, Karl (Donna) and Robert Coffin; Eileen (Ray), Nadine (Gerald), Laurel (Chuck) and Richard (Joanne) Nelson; she is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Annie was predeceased by her husband, Fred and son, Fred Jr.; sisters, Myrtle Warner and Lucretia Caines.
There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, June 26, 11 a.m., with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Reception to follow in the funeral home. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only, suggested memorials in Annie’s memory may be made to Saint Mary’s Anglican Church and Seaview Manor.
