M. Jean  MURPHY

MURPHY, M. Jean – 97, South Branch, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Elk Court, Brookfield. Born September 4, 1916, in Beaver Brook, she was a daughter of the late George and Lizzie (Crowe) Cox. Jean lived most of her life in South Branch and was a life member of Order of Eastern Star, Elm Chapter 48, Upper Stewiacke. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, bowling and handiwork including quilts, knitting, tatting and crocheting until her last two years. Jean is survived by her sons, George (Rose), Airdrie, Alberta; Clarence (Carolyn), South Branch; Ralph (Doris), Truro; daughters, Louise Dunlap, South Branch; Margaret Nicholson, Coe Hill, Ontario; Florence (Fred) Hiscock, Summerside, Prince Edward Island; Mary Fulton, Toronto, Ontario; Carol Mooring, Truro; 22 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Percy; daughter, Ethel Michael; brother, Harvey Cox; sister, Pearle Johnson; grandson, Larry Mooring; sons-in-law, Gordon, Carl, Rudy, Gerry, Mike, Layton. Special thanks are extended to all the staff of Elk Court for the wonderful care they gave her. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Jean’s family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, June 26, 2014. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014, at South Branch United Church, Reverend Carolyn Rushton officiating. Interment in South Branch Cemetery. Reception will follow in South Branch United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s memory to Elk Court or Victorian Order of Nurses are welcomed.
