J. Elwood Ross

The death of the late John “Elwood” Ross, Pleasant Valley, Pictou County, occurred in the Aberdeen Hospital June 25, 2014.
Elwood was born in New Glasgow on October 27, 1939, the son of the late Harry Roy Ross and Hilda L. (Gratto) Ross, Pleasant Valley.
Elwood spent his entire life on the Ross farm in Pleasant Valley. He was an electrician who worked on various construction jobs and in his last working years he worked with Russell Electric in New Glasgow. He was a proud 40 year retiree from Local 625 IBEW. Elwood was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s Church in Westville where he was an elder and a former member of the board of managers.
He was very involved in his boy’s activities – a cub and beaver leader, and a cheerleader during hockey, soccer and basketball. Elwood was a quiet man who enjoyed his life in Pleasant Valley which included farming, woodworking, helping with Chris’s flower beds, and helping family and friends with whatever needed to be done.
Elwood is survived by his wife Christine L. (Young) Ross; his sons Brian (Amy) Ross, Pleasant Valley; Matthew (Jessie), Elmsdale; as well as his two precious and loved grandchildren Margaret “Claire” and Dillon Elwood; brother-in-law James “Buster” Cameron, Salt Springs; nephews Stephen and Jamie Foote, David Young; nieces Linda Ferguson and Heather Jessup; brother-in-law Scott (Helen) Young.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister Olive E. Cameron, sister-in-law Margaret J. Young and brother-in-law Alvin Foote.
Elwood is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, Saturday, June 28, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of life service will take place Sunday, June 29, 2 o'clock, at St. Andrew’s Church, Westville, with Rev. Bonnie Wynn officiating. Burial will take place in Forest Hills Cemetery, Pleasant Valley.
Donations in memory of Elwood may be made to St. Andrew’s Church General Fund, or Forest Hills Cemetery.
