Russell Goddard

GODDARD, RUSSELL - Mr. Russell Alven Goddard of Berwick passed away on June 23, 2014 at the age of 84. Born in Berwick on September 20, 1929, he was the son of the late Norman and Francis (Orr) Goddard. Russell was the youngest of his family, working for the Department of Highway, Maritime Sod while working the family farm and raising six children. If there was an auction sale around somewhere; it was a holiday to go at first without the children and later with them. It was a regular family outing that was always enjoyed by all. Russell was very family-oriented; he enjoyed every one of them and made them mind with a stern voice and a certain twist of his chin and mouth. He never had to spank them, just "the look" was enough. He would ask his wife, Marjorie what meeting they had this week and if all was well and she was able to go, the farm chores were done early or on time so he could be with the children. Many times she would come home and find them asleep in the big chair (especially the first three). The next three got the same love, only spaced out. He was a community minded person as well. He was always interested in what went on and if he couldn't do something himself he would support someone else, all he could. At home he loved his old clothes, but when he went out he always got dressed up, especially when he went to church. Everyone else might have on jeans or casual clothes, but Russell would love his white shirt and green or blue tie with a suit. Russell is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Frits) Goddard; his daughters: Carol Milberry (husband Roger) of Berwick, Chris Scribner (husband Andy) of Berwick, Cindy Goddard (Mark Turner) of Collina and Jeanette Beach (husband Brad) of Pearsonville; his sons, Andrew (wife Amy) and Matthew of Berwick; his brother, Harvey Goddard (wife Pauline) of Sussex; two sisters: Carrie Gowlett of Sussex and Mabel Dalling of Waterford; his grandchildren: Sonya, Ashley, Morgan, John and Olivia and Blake and Leah; a great-granddaughter, Alexus; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman Spencer and Frances (Orr) Goddard; his brothers: Clifford, Perley, Everett, Eric, Herbert, Robert, Clarence, Wesley, Donald and Palmer; his sisters: Marion Gillett, Florence Campbell and Vivian Matchett.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, Sussex, from where visitation was held. A Celebration of Russell's Life was held from Wesley United Church on June 26, 2014 at 11:00 am with Rev. Pam Reidpath officiating. The musical selections: "The Roll is Called Up Yonder" and "Psalm 23" (in the tune of the Happy Wanderer) was provided by Heather McGrath.
