It is with great sadness and sorrow that we the family announce the sudden passing of Pius 'Ike' Hickey, 73, on Monday, June 30, 2014 at his home in Hamilton, Ontario.
Ike was a former resident of North Sydney, the son of the late Pius and Emma (Hawley) Hickey.
He was a proud member of local 736 Iron Workers for the past 50 years and he was a past usher of 45 years at St. Patrick’s Church, Hamilton, Ont.
Pius 'Ike' is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly (Bev) Saunders, his beloved son Joseph (Cathy), a very proud grandfather (Poppy) to his two grandchildren Chantel and Patrick, of Grand Bend, Ont., three brothers James 'Buck' (Alice), Cecil (Cathy), Gordie (Brenda), all of North Sydney, seven sisters Mary (Bob) Faulkner, Pearl Allain, both of Hamilton, Ann (Bill) Hawkins, Mississauga, Betty (Carl) Roberts, Georges River, Viola (Melvin) Crewe, North Sydney, Joan (Gordon) Ferneyhough, Sydney Mines, Gladys (Lee) Fraser, Bridgewater, beloved brother-in-law to Don (Flub) Saunders, Ralph Saunders, Fred (Lois) Saunders, Hazel Saunders, Evelyn Tobin and Francis Kras.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Pius Jr., Joseph and Bobby Hickey, also sister Charlotte (Dan) MacKenzie, Bathurst, N.B.
Ike will be sadly missed by many family members for his enormous heart and funny laugh (E-E-E) and his sisters would often say “get that stinky cigar out of my house”.
Funeral services will be held in Hamilton, Ont., Friday July 4, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
