James A. Reid

RIVER JOHN – James Arthur Reid of River John, passed away peacefully at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche on June 30, 2014, at 94 years of age.
James was predeceased by Norma (Bigney) Reid, his loving wife of 60 years.
He was born in River John, one of six children of the late John & Maud (Langille) Reid. James and Norma had four boys, David (Trish) of Courtney, B.C.; Bill (Kathy) of Prince Rupert, B.C.; Don (deceased) (Julie) of Burnaby, B.C.; Paul (Lavinia) of Prince George, BC.; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by brother, Merril and sisters, Helen and Eva; and is survived by sister, Jean; brother, Everett and numerous nephews and nieces.
As a working man, James had been a woodsman, farmer, truck driver and stationary hay press contractor. In 1972 James and Norma went on a vacation to Prince Rupert to visit their sons, James obtained employment at a local pulp mill, leaving in 1982 to enjoy 32 years of retirement. He had a passion for the outdoors, especially hunting and tending his vegetable and flower gardens.
Visitation will be held on 7-9 p.m. Friday in St. George’s Presbyterian Church, River John, from where funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday with Rev. Gregory Dickson officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Road Cemetery, next to Norma. A reception will follow in the church hall. No flowers by request of the deceased. Donations in his memory may be made to the St. George’s Presbyterian Church or charity of your choice. The family wishes to express our gratitude for the loving care, attention and friendship of the many VON staff and neighbours. A special thanks to Dr. Robert Bush. Arrangements are under the direction of McLaren Funeral Service, Pictou.
