Raymond "William" Hancox

HANCOX, RAYMOND "WILLIAM" CD1, MWO (Ret’d) - The family of Raymond William Hancox of Oromocto, NB, beloved husband of his “darling sweetheart” Mary (Boyne) Hancox wishes to announce that he rose to his eternal heavenly rest at the Veteran’s Health Unit, Fredericton, on June 30, 2014 at the age of 89 years 10 months. He was a son of the late William Harry and Iva (Niles) Hancox. Bill was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a WWII Veteran and a very proud member of the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) having served in England, Holland, Germany and various Canadian Bases, retiring in Oromocto after twenty-seven and one half years of Canadian Military Service. Following his retirement, he was employed for twenty years as a water/wastewater technician/supervisor at CFB Gagetown. Dad deeply loved his “darling sweetheart” and his children. He often spoke of how proud he was to go anywhere with Mom. He would say “she’s always dressed to the nines”. Deeply committed to his wife and children, he was always quick to respond to any call from his children for assistance, regardless of the time of day or night. Dad was an original born and raised Rabbit Towner who together with his brother Charlie actually snared rabbits in the Odell woods as a young boy and sold them to Mrs. Satter on King Street. As did all his brothers and sisters, he had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons; with the exception of an aversion to garter snakes, Dad loved all natural things including the animals, birds, trees and flowers; he had the ability to somehow keep all his cars immaculately dust-free; he loved a game of crib and in early years enjoyed playing Bingo next to Mom. Curling, golf and Blue Jays baseball were his favorite TV sports. Survived by his loving wife of 65+ years Mary; sons Bill (Mardie), Brian (Rochelle Guptill), Brent (Sandi); daughter Darlene DeAmbrose (Lawrence); six grandchildren Elizabeth Andrews (Geordie), Margaret Hancox, Chris Deambrose (Marcie), Lara Brymer (Jamie), Nick and Kim Hancox; eight great-grandchildren Emma, Isaac, Aidan, Fallon, Danica, Ciaran, Lillian and Declan; chosen granddaughters Mellissa, Elizabeth and Noami; chosen great grandson Kegan; a sister Louise Steward (Ken); numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; two sisters Ada and Gladys; three brothers; Charlie, Wally and Ivan.
Although there will be no visitation, a Funeral Mass celebrating Bill’s life will be held from St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Oromocto on Friday, July 4, 2014,at 11:00 AM with Father Peter Melanson officiating. A reception will be held in the church hall immediately following the funeral. Interment in the Hermitage Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart and Stroke Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. www.bishopsfuneralhome.com
