SARGESON, DOUGLAS CHARLES - The death of Douglas C. Sargeson of Saint John, husband of Marina (Grieve) Sargeson, occurred at Bobby’s Hospice surrounded by his loving family on July 1, 2014 following a period of failing health. Doug was born in Welsford, NB on August 11, 1928, the son of the late William and Annie (Fisher) Sargeson-Fox. He graduated from Saint John Vocational School in Academics in 1946 and Business Administration in 1948. Doug was employed by Hope Adjustment Bureau Ltd. before joining the RCMP in 1952, serving in Ontario and Quebec. He retired in 1980 with the rank of Staff Sargent. Doug played softball for Welsford and Belmont in the old CPR suburban league. He was an avid hunter and guide, a member of the River Valley Sporting Association, and an avid fan of the Saint John Sea Dogs. He was a member of the RCMP Veterans Association and a longstanding dedicated member of the United Church of Canada, and an active member of Carleton-Kirk United Church. Doug was the Central Treasurer of the 3 Charges (Welsford, Hoyt, Patterson) and was on the Board of Directors of Welsford Cemetery. Survived by his loving wife Marina; two daughters Donna Sargeson (Bob Graziano) of Ottawa, Dawn Bourque of Toronto; two brothers Allen (Linda) of Zealand NB, George Fox (Marilyn Shaw) of Fredericton; four grandchildren, Samantha and James Graziano, Peter and Epithany Bourque. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife Mary (Hood) Sargeson 1986; brother William 2004; sisters, Margaret 1923 and Elizabeth Moore 2010.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00pm on Friday, July 4, 2014 at Carleton-Kirk United Church, followed immediately by the 2:00pm Service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances made to the Welsford Valley Cemetery, Bobby’s Hospice or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
