It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and friend, Dolly Chapman on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at the Victoria County Hospital, Baddeck.
Born in Sydney, N.S., she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (MacAskill) MacLeod.
Dolly was born and raised in Cape Breton. She later moved to Boston, where she would meet her first husband, Neil, and raise their family. Dolly was never far from Cape Breton, spending many summers vacationing in Englishtown, and in 1996, it became her permanent home.
Dolly was happiest when she was surrounded by her family, music and dancing. She loved entertaining and was famous for her Christmas Eve parties.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Keith) Radcliffe and their daughters, Brynne-Lei and Mia-Rose of Sarasota, Florida; by her sons, Neil MacLennan and his sons, Jacob and Benjamin of Portland, Maine, and Willie MacLennan of Ashland, Mass. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dolly was predeceased by her first husband, Neil MacLennan, her second husband, Fred Chapman, brothers, Angus, Robert, Freeman and a sister in infancy.
Visitation for Dolly will be held Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Englishtown Community Hall. A funeral service will take place Saturday, 2 p.m. from the Englishtown Community Hall, with Rev. Brian MacLeod officiating. Burial will follow in Bay View Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a local food bank in Dolly’s memory.
