Shirley Elaine MacNeil (Fowler)

MacNEIL (Fowler), Shirley Elaine – 85, Truro. The passing of Shirley Elaine (Fowler) MacNeil of Truro occurred on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, with her family at her side. Shirley was born February 3, 1929 in Springhill to Orrin and Bertina (Johnson) Fowler. Her mother died when she was three and her father when she was seven. Shirley then went to live with her paternal uncle, Allan Fowler, his wife, Mary, and their children, Dorothy and Marilyn. Shirley’s older brother, Donald, went to live with their maternal grandmother. Shirley moved to Truro, met and married Archie MacNeil. They had and raised three children, Mary (John Baird), Michael (Lucy), and Peter (Shelley). Shirley leaves behind eight wonderful grandchildren, Ashley (Ben Blackie), Jared (Veronica), Kimberley, Tony (Joelle), Kevin (Deeanna), Lindsay (Chad Davidson), Melissa, Kristen and a great grandson Noah. Shirley is also survived by her sister Marilyn of Springhill and many caring nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Archie, brother, Donald and sister, Dorothy. Shirley was a wonderful, caring, and loyal mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. To Shirley, family was everything and she was the mortar that held it together. Shirley was a compassionate woman who cared deeply about others. Her close group of special friends will miss her dearly. As per Shirley’s wishes, there will be no service but her spirit will be forever in our hearts. Rest in peace, Mom. Though your body was worn, your mind was strong and your heart was full of love. Your worries are over. You are the wind beneath our wings. We will love you forever. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
