We regret to announce the death of Lillian Whyte, 86, Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, on July 2, 2014.
Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Sarah (McNeil) White. After graduating from Provincial Normal College in Truro in 1947, she taught school in Dominion for several years. Lillian earned a BA and BEd from St. Francis Xavier University, an MSc in Education from Fordham University in New York, and a PhD from Columbia University in New York. After teaching at St. Francis Xavier University, she was a professor in the educational psychology department of the University of Alberta in Edmonton until she retired to Cape Breton in 1990, where she continued to work with UCCB, McGill, St. FX, and the Province of Nova Scotia.
Lillian was an avid knitter and quilter and enjoyed doting on her family.
She is survived by her sisters, Margaret 'Peggy' Whyte, Glace Bay and Susan (Clifford) Cook, Dominion; nieces, Marcy (Seward) Bouchie, Summerside; Sarah (Colin) Adams, Glace Bay; nephew, Matthew Cook, Dominion; four grand-nieces and one grand-nephew.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Anne Mae Whyte.
There will be no visitation. Funeral will be held at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. A private interment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations in Lillian’s memory may be made to St. Eugene’s Cemetery, Dominion.
