Little Harbour - Robert “Bob” Russell. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert William “Bob” Russell. Bob passed away July 7, 2014 in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in the Aberdeen Hospital March 18, 1931, he was the son of the late Blair and Mary (MacQueen) Russell. He was a lifelong resident of Little Harbour. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Anna Fern (MacKay) Russell; son, Kevin (Jo-Anne); and granddaughter Kaitlin; nieces, Cindy (Bart) Brown and Susan Colquhoun; grandnieces and nephews; extended family, brother-in-law, Doug MacKay; sisters-in-law: Kay (Bert) Gordon, Dorothy (Foster) Jenkins; many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents and sister Molly Colquhoun, brothers and sisters-in-law: Seymour Colquhoun, Shirley and Sheldon Campbell and Grace MacKay. Bob spent his last years as a dedicated caregiver to his wife. He was a lifelong member of the Little Harbour Presbyterian Church and served as an elder for many years. Bob was also one of the original members of the Little Harbour Fire Department and served as chief for 17 years as well as volunteering at the Little Harbour Community Centre. He enjoyed curling, horse racing, gardening, hockey and baseball. The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the emergency department staff and 4th floor staff at the Aberdeen Hospital as well as the VON homecare, nursing and coordinators. Your special care was very much appreciated. Visitation will be held at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral will be on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 2 pm at the Little Harbour Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Pat Rose officiating. Family flowers only please.
