Ella Kennedy - of Great Village, NS, Toronto and New Minas, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014 after a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer. She was born in Great Village, NS on May 15th, 1946. After graduation from Truro Senior High School in 1964, she attended Acadia University for 2 years and then finished her BA at Concordia University in Montreal. Her later years were spent working as a Court Clerk in the Toronto court system, a job she really enjoyed and at which she excelled. She was very competent and was highly respected by her co-workers. She retired in July 2013 and moved to New Minas to be close to her sister, Barb. She enjoyed traveling to warm countries, being near the water, reading, working on jigsaw puzzles, politics and working out. She loved watching the old shows on TCM, as well as listening to Talk Radio. She was looking forward to spending part of a winter in Florida or other warm areas. Ella was predeceased by her father, John Medford “Med” Kennedy formerly of Truro NS, in 1962, her mother, Bernice (Roop), formerly of Digby, in 2004, and her elder sister, Joan (Kennedy) Carter of Halifax and Perth, ON, in March, 2011. She leaves behind her sister, Barbara Kennedy of Kentville, the “Forbes Girls” (close family friends from Great Village) as well as several close cousins, Sharon (Allan) Smith of Shortt’s Lake, NS; Kim (Kevin) Merriam and children of Onslow; Cory Smith of Debert; Michael (Wendy) Lannon of North Woodstock, NH; as well as Ino Thompson, Valerie MacEachen, Lloyd MacLean and Malcolm MacLean, all of Ontario. Special thanks are given to Drs. Ross, Burch, Merryweather, Goodman and Todd for their care of Ella, as well as all of the amazing staff of Medical B at Valley Regional Hospital. They were all so great with Ella and she appreciated everything that they did for her. Cremation has taken place. There will be a service held at the Valley Regional Hospital at a later date. Donations in her name can be made to The Palliative Care Fund of Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville NS, the Kentville Branch of the Annapolis Valley Library or a charity of your choice.
