PARFITT, JOHN - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of John Cyril Parfitt, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on July 8, 2014, after a year-long battle with cancer. John was born to Cyril and Margaret (Lackie) Parfitt on October 13, 1956, and was a life-long resident of Saint John. In his younger years, John could be found playing hockey, on and off the ice, both winter and summer. His passion turned to hunting in his mid-twenties, and he often counted the passing of time in terms of hunting seasons rather than calendar years. John also enjoyed cars – owning and restoring several antiques over the years. More recently (when the kids could be left by themselves), he and Tina would enjoy early weekend morning drives for coffee and a trip through the local car lots – “just to look”. John was a pipefitter by trade (a member of Local 213), but a carpenter at heart – spending countless hours renovating the family home and cottage. John leaves behind his wife, Christina (Gautreau); son, Robert Cyril Edward; daughter, Celina Louise; mother, Margaret Parfitt; brother, Douglas (Charlene) Parfitt; sisters: Judy (Kim) McAdam; Lori (Kevin) Buckley; Wendy (Brian) Johnston; aunts, Daisy Watson and Dorothy Parsons; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was predeceased by his father, Cyril Robert Parfitt. The family wishes to thank all of the friends who have so freely given of their time over the past year by visiting, cooking, praying, doing odd jobs, and calling with words of encouragement. Also, a big thank-you to the co-workers of John and Tina who donated funds to assist with the many expenses associated with John’s care over the past year. Your overwhelming generosity touched them deeply, and although John was a man of many words, he was left speechless by your gifts.
