SPRINGHILL/PARRSBORO - It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Lillian (Canning) McCulley, age 93, of Springhill and Parrsboro. Lillian passed away peacefully at High Crest Nursing Home on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.
Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late William and Rhoda (MacKenzie) Murray.
Lillian was a member of St. Andrews Wesley United Church, where she sang in the choir, and taught Sunday School. She also attended Trinity United Church, Parrsboro where she was also a choir member. She was a well loved teacher in the Springhill Elementary Schools for 24 years. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters and was a volunteer at High Crest Nursing Home. Always active, she loved spending time at the beach, line dancing, cross stitch, curling, needle point, and attending the seniors group where she was an avid card player.
Above all came her family that she cherished and who will miss her dearly. She leaves behind her second husband, Donald McCulley, Springhill/Parrsboro; daughters, Dorothy Harroun and Lorraine (Michael) MacDonald, both of Springhill; step-son Eddie (Nancy) McCulley, Parrsboro; step-daughters Brenda (Wayne) Estabrooks, Sackville, NB, Sharon (Neil) McCulley, Parrsboro, 5 grandchildren, Daniel Harroun, Stuart Harroun, Jennifer (Jeff Dumville) Matthews, Amy (Jeff) Katerynych, and Adam (Jen Gosbee) Matthews; 5 great grandchildren Bailey and Brynn Dumville, Xannah, Chloe and Oliver Katerynych; step grandchildren, Julian, Brett, Riley, Jonathan and Christopher McCulley; step great grandchildren Ella, and Jovie McCulley; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband Ronald Canning; brothers Robert, Herbert, Hugh, Ralphie and Arthur Murray and sister Dorothy Ross.
Arrangements were entrusted to the A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where visiting hours took place on Sunday. The funeral service took place at St. Andrew’s Wesley United Church on Monday, July 7, 2014, at 2 pm, Rev. Wayne McCarther officiating. Burial followed in the Rodney Cemetery.
