PIKE, JAMES BOYD "JIM" - 1928 - 2014 - The family regret to announce the passing of James Boyd Pike (Jim) of Fredericton, N. B., on July 9th, 2014. Born on June 22, 1928 in Middleton, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Henry James Pike and Mary Alma (Boyd) Pike. Jim is survived by the love of his life, Hazel. A (Russell) Pike, his wife of 64 years, son David (Pauline), daughter Kathryn (Donald) Turner, daughter-in-law Deborah (the late Rodney) Pike, grandchildren Jennifer (Allan) Hall, Cheryl (Matthew) Throop, Alexandra and Ryan Pike and step-grandson Skyler Milner. Also survived by four great-grandsons, sister Ruth (Floyd) Smith, sister-in-law Jane Pike and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, son Rodney, brother Donald and infant sister, Margaret. Jim attended Salisbury Regional School and graduated in Forestry from UNB (Fredericton) in 1950. He had 48 years of employment with the Colter Group of Companies, retiring as Vice President and General Manager of Ashley Colter Ltd. He was active in his church, involved in sports, mainly hockey, softball and curling. He was past Chairman of the NB Forest Products Association and the Maritime Lumber Bureau and a member of The Canadian Institute of Forestry.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 15th from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton. A memorial service will be held at Gibson Memorial United Church, 183 Gibson Street, Fredericton, on Wednesday, July 16th, at 1 PM. A reception will immediately follow at the church. A private interment will take place at 3:45 PM in the Sunny Bank Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chalmers Hospital Foundation, Gibson Memorial Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses for their wonderful care and attention to Jim while he was in the hospital.
