It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Mary Agnes MacDonald passed away with her loving family at her side, Saturday, July 12, 2014, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, March 1, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Helen MacDonald and was a member of St. Leonard's Parish.
"Mary Sandy" as she was fondly called by many, was a very kind and gentle lady. She was a stay-at-home mom; who truly enjoyed raising her family. She also enjoyed growing flowers in her outdoor planters, playing darts, doing crossword puzzles and her daily walks to town. Her greatest joy was spending time with her loving family, especially with her grandchildren, who lovingly called her G. Ma.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Margaret (Marcelline) MacDonald, San Francisco, Sandra (Bernie) MacLeod, River Ryan; sons, Ken (Maureen), Brantford, and Bert (Kara), New Waterford; grandchildren, Nolan (Marilyn), Courtney, Trevor, Alexander and she was also affectionately known as Gramma to Kristin Wilton. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Bianca and Nolan; brother Regis (Sis) McDonald; sisters-in-law, Catherine McDonald, Doris MacDonald and Savina McNeil.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband Sandy MacDonald, granddaughter Amanda MacLeod and brothers John and Dan McDonald.
Visitation for Mary, will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, July15, 2014, from 6-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Ray Huntley will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Leonard’s Church, Mt. Carmel Avenue, New Waterford, with interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. A reception will follow at St. Leonard’s Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
Members of the KOC are asked to meet at the funeral home 7 p.m. Tuesday, for prayers.
As an expression of sympathy for Mary Agnes, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center.
