Edward “Ed” George Habetler
March 12, 1936 – July 12, 2014

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). Ed passed away at the Victoria Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer. Ed was born in Wakaw, SK and moved to Prince Albert in 1952. Ed will be dearly missed by his devoted wife Violet and best friend of 57 years; his son Brent (Colleen) Habetler & grandchildren Alyssa & Brennan; his son Robert (Sandra) Habetler; his daughter Carolyn (Kelly) Towle & grandchildren Kristian, Nathaniel, Rebekah & Angelene. He is also survived by his brothers Joe (Blanche) Habetler and Arnold (Joan) Habetler. Ed was predeceased by his parents Simon and Mary Habetler; sisters and brothers-in-law Helen and Miro Matkowski, Alida and Joseph Scheidl; brothers and sisters-in-law Sammy, Herman and Mary Habetler. He served with the Prince Albert Fire Department for 30 years and was a founding member of the Prince Albert Raiders and an exuberant fan. He was also a skilled handyman who loved fishing and the outdoors with his family. Ed loved gardening so much that he persevered this spring and planted his garden once again. He was especially proud of his grandchildren who were like his own children, never missing any of their school events or extracurricular activities. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and will be remembered for his faithful baritone voice at Catholic parishes in Prince Albert. His love of music was carried on through to the next generations. Ed’s Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 589 – 9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Celebrant The Very Reverend Maurice Fiolleau, Vicar General and co-celebrant Reverend Father Roque Concepcion. Private Family Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and/or to the Prince Albert Raiders Education Fund. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director (306-922-4729).
